Three displaced villagers who return village to get food killed by junta’s artillery attack

HURFOM: On March 17th, 2025, the military junta launched artillery and air attacks to Thane Khun, Chaung Hna Pauk and Chaung La Mu villages, Tenasserim Township, Tenasserim Division forcing the entire population to flee home immediately.

At noon on March 21st, the junta’s regiment based in Thane Khun village also launched 120-mm artillery attacks to nearby villages.

Three displaced villagers including a 20-year-old pregnant woman were killed at the spot by the artillery explosion while another local man sustained an injury. All the villagers returned the village to collect food.

A pregnant woman and other two men were killed at the spot. Another man sustained an injury. Now, the army launched indiscriminate artillery attack even when they heard the sound of motorbike. At this time, they conducted aerial patrol before launching artillery attack,” said a villager from Chaung La Mu.

The 20-year-old local man who sustained injury has been receiving treatment and other three decedents were buried at Chaung La Mu village, according to local sources.

Since last week of December, 2024, there have been intense battles between the military junta and the revolutionary armed groups in Thane Khun village track and on March 16, 2025, the junta’s artillery attack killed a 40-year-old man from Chaung La Mu village.

The junta’s artillery attacks and air assaults have been forcing the entire population of Yebyu, Htone Khar, Chaung Hna Pauk, Thane Khun, Chaung La Mu and Kun Tea Taw villages to flee home and the displaced community has been facing food shortage, according to social workers who helps displaced villagers.
