December 24, 2024
HURFOM: On December 19th, 2024, U Aung Phay, the father of Ko Min Lwin Oo who is a member of Dawei District General Strike Committee, was released from prison.
The junta arrested 66-year-old U Aung Phay on June 19th, 2023 at his home in Pyin Htein village, Long Lone Township, Tenasserim
He was sentenced to two years in jail under the Burmese Criminal Act section #505 (A).
U Aung Phya was released after being incarcerated for one and half years in the Dawei Prison, according to his family.
“My father isn’t feeling well. His health is getting worse as he has been jailed. Now that he has been released, he can’t walk well,” said a family member.
The mother of Ko Min Lwin Oo was also arrested by the junta in November, 2021 but released four days after the arrest.
The junta issued an arrest warrant for Ko Min Lwin Oo in 2023 under the Anti-Terrorist Act but was never arrested.
“They arrested my innocent father who did nothing wrong. I’m worried a lot for him as his health isn’t good. Arresting my father is just a cowardly act of the junta,” said Ko Min Lwin Oo.
