Junta’s regiment kills three villagers in Long Lone

HURFOM: Between October 10th and 16th, 2024, a junta’s regiment consisting of approximately 500 troops launched military operations in Gog Inn, Yebyu, Pain Nell Taw, Ka Dat Nge Htein, Ka Htein Gyi, Sat Pyell and Nyin Maw village, Long Lone Township, Tenasserim.

This included indiscriminate attacks using heavy and small weapons that killed 70-year-old Daw Ma Ngae from Out Yebyu village, and 50-year-old Daw Thet Thet who died of heart attack.

Daw Ma Ngae had an illness and laid down in bed. One of the junta’s bullets hit her abdomen and she died on October 17th. Daw Thet Thet was frightened by the sound of small and heavy weapons and died of heart attack and hypertension,” said a displaced villager.

In addition, 30-year-old Ka Karm Karm was shot and killed by the regiment. 

While fleeing the village by motorbike, Ko Karm Karm encountered the regiment and they shot and killed him. They abandoned the dead body where he fell,” said the source.

Local villagers reported to HURFOM the regiment also arrested about 100 villagers from Gog Inn, Yebyu, Pain Nell Taw and Ka Dat Ngae Htein villages.

The regiment went back to Long Lone Town October 20th. They released some of those arrested but some villagers are still in detention,” said a local source.

After a week-long military operation, there are shortages of gasoline, medicine and basic foods and grocery stores have not reopened. Villagers are experiencing grave difficulties.

A transformer was destroyed in a battle near Yin Boat. We’ve had a blackout for a week,” said a villager.

Due to the military operation and intense battles, more than 5,000 residents have had to flee from their homes, and more than 1,000 of them are unable to return as of today.
