Electorate show no interest in ‘junta’s sham election’

HURFOM: In Mon State, the military junta and their administrative bodies are using loudspeakers to urge people to check their voters’ list; however, no one is listening in what is being called ‘the junta’s sham election’.

The administration team used loudspeakers to urge villagers to check their voters’ list but no one went to check their list as they aren’t interested in the sham election,” said a Kyikemayaw resident.

The junta’s election commission firstly announced the voters’ list was available from September 30 to October 13th; however, on October 10th, the commission extended the viewing time from October 14th to 20th as voters have not come to check to see if their names are on the voters list.

Even though the commission had extended the time, the number of voters who came to check their list did not increase.

Villagers are demonstrating they are not interested and forms have been filed by any member of the electorate to have names added or amended to the list.

The military commission will hold what is widely seen as a sham election in three parts.  The first part includes Kyike Hto, Kyikemayaw, Chaung Zone, Mawlamyine and Thaton Townships.
