HURFOM: From January to November, 2024, more than 2,000 undocumented Burmese migrant workers who tried to enter Thailand were arrested by the Thai Border Guard Forces.
Ever since the military junta approved the public conscription law, more and more young and middle-aged men in Burma have been attempting to travel abroad, either with or without the necessary documentation.
“This year, those who want to enter Thailand without documentation don’t reach Thailand — instead they get arrested on their way. The Thai authorities conduct arrests every day but Burmese people still try to enter Thailand every day,” said a driver from Three Pagoda Pass.
Thai Border Guard Forces have tightened security and conduct daily arrests.
According to a news agency in Thailand, the Thai police have conducted a “120-day arrest mission” with nearly 160,000 Burmese migrant workers arrested for attempting to enter Thailand without documentation.
