Nine residents arrested within two days in Pu Law

HURFOM: At about 3 pm on January 29^th, 2025, the 306^th artillery regiment, which is based in the village of Maw Tone targeted Lell Taung Yar and Nyaung Pin Gone villages, Tenasserim Township, Tenasserim Division with artillery and drones’ attacks.

Junta collects list of students 18 years of age in Chaung Zone: Parents suspect it will be used to force conscription

HURFOM: On January 27^th, 2025, junta’s forces and the village and ward administrators reached the Basic Education High Schools in Chaung Zone Township, Mon State and collected a list of the students who have already turned 18 years for conscription.

Only one third of displaced students return to school

HURFOM: On January 9^th, 2025, an intense armed clash took place in Kyone Long (old) village, Ye Chaung Pyar region, Ye Township, Mon State, and six government schools in five villages had to be closed.

More than 600 students fled from their homes with their parents, and most were unable to return to school due to livelihood and financial challenges.

NUG sentences a PDF member to six-year imprisonment

HURFOM: In August, 2023, a member of the People’s Defense Force raped a woman from Long Lone Township, Tenasserim Division.

The victim filed a report with the Ministry of Woman, Youth and Child Affairs of the National Unity Government and on January 20^th, 2025, the NUG sentenced the rapist to six-year’s imprisonment.

Junta burns houses in Kyauk Ne Maw: Displaced villagers unable to return home

HURFOM: On December 24^th, 2024, an armed clash took place between the military junta and the People’s Defense Force in Kyauk Ne Maw village, Long Lone Township, Tenasserim Division.  The junta’s artillery attack burnt down and destroyed 280 houses in the village.

Administrators extort residents to hire security guards

HURFOM: The ward Administrators of Pu Law Town, Pu Law Township, Tenasserim Division have issued an order that five residents from each ward in Pu Law Town must serve as security guards for the community fire alarm system and each guard will be paid 250,000 MMK monthly.

Junta’s air strike kills local woman in Kaw Ka Rate

HURFOM: On January 22^nd, 2025, the military junta launched an air assault on Ward #5, Kyike Done Town, Kaw Ka Rate Township, Karen State which is under the control of the Karen National Union.  There were no armed clashes in the area.  The air strike killed a local woman.

Junta restricts transportation of cement to impede construction of bomb shelters

HURFOM: There have been frequent armed clashes in Karen State, and the military junta has launched repeated air assaults forcing local people to construct bomb shelters for their safety.
