HURFOM: There have been frequent armed clashes in Karen State, and the military junta has launched repeated air assaults forcing local people to construct bomb shelters for their safety.
In order to interrupt the construction of bomb shelters, the junta has restricted the transportation of construction materials including cement, bricks, sand and stone, local sources reported HURFOM.
“The military is aware that local people are constructing bomb shelters and imposed a restriction (on transportation of construction materials). Essentially, they have ordered people not to construct bomb shelters,” said a local villager.

The junta’s security gates now allow each truck to carry only 50 bags of cement and the transportation can only be once a week.
“If cement bags exceed more than 50, the junta’s security gates seize the material. They heavily target trucks which transport cement and construction materials,” said a local resident from Karen State.
The Myine Kalay Cement Factory in Karen State has run out of natural gas and the production of cement has declined creating scarcity and high prices that has reached Mon State.
“In Ye, a bag of cement cost between 35,000 and 38,000 MMK. The price is different depending on the store. Even if we pay that price, we can’t buy the cement. All construction work has to be halted,” said a construction worker in Ye Township.
