HURFOM: On January 22nd, 2025, the military junta launched an air assault on Ward #5, Kyike Done Town, Kaw Ka Rate Township, Karen State which is under the control of the Karen National Union. There were no armed clashes in the area. The air strike killed a local woman.
The air strike killed 52-year-old Daw Nilar Aung and destroyed nearly the entire building in the fire brigade camp.
“The deceased woman was returning from her rubber plantation and she hadn’t reached her home yet. She was resting near the fire brigade camp and was hit by the air strike,” said a local source who wants to remain anonymous.
Local people said the junta launched an airstrike targeting the fire brigade camp because they were informed that members of the Karen National Liberation Army had taken temporary shelter at the camp in previous months.
In 2024, the junta’s artillery attack also injured a local man in Kyike Done Town.
