HURFOM: In villages in Ye Township, Mon State, the military junta banned local plantation workers from staying or working at night at rubber plantations. However, migrant plantation workers are permitted to stay overnight at the plantation, if they have their ID cards and recommendation letters from village administrators.
The junta informed the local residents that if a migrant plantation worker stays overnight without proper documents, they will be arrested immediately.

“If a migrant worker wants to stay at night in the plantation, they must carry their ID card and recommendation letter from the village administrator. Failure to show these documents to soldiers, will result in arrest,” said one villager.
The junta has also announced “martial law” in some villages in Ye Township; those breaching the ban were arrested, locals reported HURFOM.
“During the previous days, 12 villagers were arrested for breaching martial law. They were released on bail with the request by the Administrator. If soldiers find anything related to illicit drugs during the arrest, they demand a huge amount of money in order to be released,” said a resident.
The harvest season at rubber plantations starts now, and workers are needed to tap the trees in the night and early morning. Banning villagers or workers from working or travelling to plantations at night has a huge economic effect on the rubber industry.
