Armed group injures student in Long Lone

HURFOM: On June 4rth, 2024, the Spring Guerrilla Force shot and injured a 14-year-old student, named Maung Thet Pine Myo near Ka Byar village, Long Lone Township, Tenasserim Division.

The Spring Guerrilla Force was conducting a ‘stop and check’ of vehicles near Ma Beat Mount.  Maung Thet Pine Myo was traveling by a car when he was shot at.

Ministers abuse power trying to forcefully remove landowners in Dawei

June 11, 2024

HURFOM: In March, 2023, the Chief Minister and the Minister of the Karen Ethnic Affairs of Tenasserim Division attempted to forcefully remove a farm family from their land. The family owns more than one acre of farmland in Htein Thit Ward, Dawei City, Dawei District, Tenasserim Division.

Ownership of the land is contested and the matter is before the Dawei District Court.

Junta’s artillery attack kills four family members in Yebyu

HURFOM: On June 7th, 2024, the military junta launched an artillery attack on Yar Phu new village, Yar Phu village track, Yebyu Township, Tenasserim Division that killed four family members including an 8-month newborn child.

There was a battle at noon around Yar Phu new village near Ka Lane Aung Town, and the Mawrawaddy Navy Command responded with artillery attacks. The artillery shells exploded on residents’ houses.

Junta’s artillery injures five family members including three children in Ye

June 10, 2024

HURFOM: On June 5th, 2024, a Major from the 106th Light Infantry Battalion based in Maw Ka Nin village, Ye Township, Mon State was captured by the resistance forces.

In response, the battalion launched an indiscriminate artillery attack at 9 pm on June 5th that injured five family members including three children.

Junta bans usage of VPN applications

HURFOM: Since the attempted coup on February 1st, 2021, the military council restricted people’s right to information and free speech. The junta banned people from using social media platforms and interrupted the flow of information.

In order to have access to social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and YouTube, people have to use a VPN – Virtual Private Network application.

Five members, including President, of Lamine Youth Charity and Rescue Team arrested by junta

June 10, 2024

HURFOM: On May 29th, 2024, the President and four members of Lamine Youth Charity and Rescue Team were arrested by the military junta.

The rescue team had sent a military officer from the 588th Light Infantry Battalion to the Mawlamyine General Hospital.  The officer was injured in a car accident. The rescue team’s ambulance was stopped by resistance forces on the Ye – Thanbyuzayat Highway Road. When it was revealed that the patient was a military officer, he was arrested by the resistance forces, according to a Lamine resident.

Three villagers injured by artillery attack in Thane Za Yat

HURFOM: Since June 2nd, 2024, the military junta has been launching artillery attacks on Thane Za Yat Town and nearby villages, Kyike Hto Township, Mon State.  The attacks injured three villagers including a pregnant woman.

After the 310th artillery regiment and the 207th Light Infantry Battalion based in Thane Za Yat were attacked by resistance forces, the military junta targeted Thone Kwa, War Det Kwin, Sit Kwin, Ah Kine, Mote Kha Malt and Kha Ywelve villages with indiscriminate artillery attacks, both day and night.

High schools in Ye Township ban students from choosing their subject combination

HURFOM: Schools across Burma opened on June 3rd, 2024 and Grade-10 students must choose one of four subject combinations for their studies.

However, some high schools in Ye Township have banned students from choosing their favorite subject combination on their own. Depending on their grade, schoolteachers are selecting the subject combination for them.

Attacks by the Junta Worsen in Southeast Burma as Civilians are Targeted

​​In the first week of June, the Human Rights Foundation of Monland (HURFOM) reported that artillery and airstrikes by the military troops in Bilin and Thaton townships, Mon State, destroyed 12 houses, including a monastery. This information was reported by the Karen National Union (KNU) Central Committee on June 6. In addition, at least fifteen residents were arrested in Kyike Hto Township from May 31 to June 5, 2024.

More than five artillery shells were fired by the 310th Artillery Battalion, causing further damage. Although civilians had to flee their homes, no injuries were reported. On June 3, the 9th Light Infantry Battalion, based in Thaton, fired artillery shells into Yay Wai village, destroying two religious buildings within the village monastery.
