Detail questions in census frighten local villagers

HURFOM: The military junta announced they are conducting the national census from October 1st to 15th, 2024. Soldiers, police members, staff from the Immigration Department, schoolteachers and staff and officials from the General Administration Department are tasked with conducting the census.

The census is being conducted door to door in wards and villages across Mon State.

Two women accused of supporting PDF sentenced to 15-year imprisonment

HURFOM: In early August, 2024, two local women, Ma Nan Ye and Ma Moe Khine both from Aung Mitta Ward, Ye Town, Mon State were arrested by the military junta at their homes after being accused of supporting the People’s Defense Force. The junta has charged them under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

HURFOM: Since September 29th, 2024, the junta’s 81st Light Infantry Battalion based in Zar-Tha-Byin has been targeting Dhammasa, Tar Ra Nar, Kaw Bane and other villages in the “Gyaing River” area, Kyikemayaw Township, Mon State with indiscriminate artillery attacks.

Junta’s drone attack killed a child in Tenasserim Township

HURFOM: On October 2nd, 2024, the junta’s 306th artillery regiment used a drone to drop three bombs on Western Maw Tone village, Tenasserim Township, Tenasserim Division. The bombs exploded between the village school and a house.

Telecommunication network cut off in Pauk Pin Kwin

HURFOM: Since September 1st, 2024, the telecommunication network in Pauk Pin Kwin village, Kan Bauk region, Yebyu Township, Tenasserim has been cut off and villagers are experiencing communication problems.

Only the Mytel operator is available in Ye Township at the moment and the telecommunication tower has to operate with a gasoline generator. However, the company’s staff have not come to refuel the generator creating a telecommunication blackout in the area.

Weekly Analysis: Junta Targets Civilians in Violent Interrogations

The Burma Army is desperate for legitimacy. As the regime continues to lose critical bases and territory, its retaliatory response has targeted innocent civilians. In target areas of the Human Rights Foundation of Monland (HURFOM), including Mon State, Karen State and the Tanintharyi region, villagers are among the hardest hit when the junta deploys its offensives.

Enforced disappearances and abductions are being reported across the region as those suspected of any ties or allegiances to pro-democracy forces are not heard from following their arbitrary arrests. These sinister acts further prove the junta’s desperation and quest for control through all means.

Villager injured and three houses destroyed by artillery explosion in Kyike Hto

HURFOM: On September 30th, 2024, the 207th Light Infantry Battalion and the 310th artillery regiment both based in Thane Za Yet, Kyike Hto Township, Mon State were attacked by joint resistance forces.

In response, the junta launched at least 35 indiscriminate artillery attacks on Thone Kwa and Ye Kyaw villages which injured a villager and destroyed three houses, according to the Thaton District Karen National Union.

Intense battle in Tenasserim forces 6,000 residents to flee homes

HURFOM: Since the last week of August, 2024, the military junta has launched a series of military operations, resulting in the displacement of 6,000 villagers from Tenasserim Township, Tenasserim Division.    The military has placed soldiers in villages, launched artillery attacks, dropped bombs by drones and arrested local villagers.

Junta’s air assault injuries three villagers in Kaw Ka Rate

October 3, 2024

HURFOM: On September 29, 2024, the Mawlamyine based Southeast Military Command had launched an air assault to Min Yaw village, Kaw Ka Rate Township, Karen State without having any active armed clash in the area and injured three villagers and destroyed three houses.

The two aerial bombs dropped and exploded nearby a residential house and injured 42-year-old U Aung Maung and other two men who were sleeping in the house.
