Junta’s troops raid houses and extort money from residents in Long Lone

HURFOM: After launching military operations in Tha Byar, Ra Hong Wad and Pan Da Lell villages, Long Lone Township, Tenasserim Division, on July 14, 2024, approximately 80 junta troops reached the Long Lone Town Police Station and scattered their forces across the town.

Increased Surveillance and Privacy Rights are Under Attack
Last week, the junta banned the well-known messaging application Signal. Signal has strong end-to-end encryption that keeps communication completely private. Activists, organizations, and human rights defenders in Burma commonly use it to carry out their activities safely. The Burma Army has tried to censor the flow of information many times in the past to prevent witnesses to the horrors they are committing and, therefore, attempt to shield themselves from consequences.
Promptly after the attempted coup, the Burma Army moved to ensure access to Facebook was no longer accessible to stop organizing efforts. The terrorist regime has continued to block social networks also to hide the crimes they are violently committing against innocent people.

HURFOM: On July 16th, 2024, the military junta launched indiscriminate artillery attacks on
Ward #1, Thane Za Yet Town, Kyike Hto Township, Mon State. The attack injured two workers at a wood mill.
The 310th artillery regiment was responsible for the attack. There were no armed clashes in the area.
Due to the artillery explosion, 40-year-old U Zaw Aung and 20-year-old Ko Hein Way Aung sustained injuries to their chests and thighs.

HURFOM: The 1st batch of the compulsory military service recruits trained at the 4th Advanced Military Training School in Well Ka Lee village, Thanbyuzayat Township, Mon State finished their training on June 28, 2024.
Approximately 200 young men have been sent to conflict zones across Burma. More than 100 have been sent to the 37th Light Infantry Battalion in Myit Kyi Nar, and more than 50 of them have been sent to the 586th Light Infantry Battalion. The remaining recruits have been sent to different townships across Burma.

HURFOM: On June 24th, 2024, Mon State Chief Minister U Aung Kyi Thein met with the Chinese Ambassador to Burma to discuss construction of a coal fired power plant in Chaung Zone Township, Mon State.
The military junta has bought 50 acres of mangrove forest between Ka Lawi and Da Yell villages, Chaung Zone Township and paid compensation to landowners at the rate of 5 million MMK per acre.
The junta has moved very quickly on this project.

HURFOM: Between July 13th and the 19th, 2024, domestic and international donors, monks and Mon charity groups have been providing monetary support to displaced persons and those who lost their houses in artillery attacks from Kyaing Rivier area, Kyikemayaw Township, Mon State.
Each household of displaced persons will receive 150,000 MMK and other household items.

HURFOM: On July 2nd 2024, the military junta announced they would penalize high-ranking officials from seven popular private banks. Following this announcement, trust in banks has dropped significantly, and clients began to withdraw their cash from their bank accounts.
In response, the junta limited cash withdrawal from banks, ATM machines and Mobile Pay apps on July 9th.

HURFOM: Since June, 2024, the number of cases of theft by a gang of thieves has been on the rise in Ah Nin village, Thanbyuzayat Township, Mon State, local people reported HURFOM.
Local people reported to HURFOM that gangs of thieves holding knives have been entering homes to steal lawnmowers, televisions, batteries, bicycles, clothes and other valuables. Villagers have experienced cases of theft every night.

According to local sources, a regiment consisting of 100 troops entered Pan Da Lell and Inn Sought villages on the evening of July 14th and stationed themselves within the villages.
