Three Kan Bauk residents accused of providing financial support to PDF

HURFOM: On September 7, 2023, three family members from Mya Thidar Ward, Kan Bauk Town, Yebyu Township, Tenasserim Division were arrested by the military junta after being accused of providing financial support to the People’s Defense Forces (PDF).
Neighbours told HURFOM that the family was robbed by armed gunmen.

HURFOM: On September 6, 2023, the military junta launched a military operation in Oak Tan Dar and surrounding villages, Paung Township, Mon State and arrested nearly 20 villagers.
At the end of August, 2023, the junta-appointed village Administrator and police members were shot and killed and the police station and the Township General Administration Department Office were attacked.

HURFOM: Armed clashes between the Burmese army and the revolutionary forces have been increasing in Ye Township, Mon State, leaving rubber plantation owners to abandon their workplaces due to security concerns.
They have been unable to do any regular maintenance and fertilization of their plantation.
Now, harvest season is approaching but armed clashes occur often, and owners are worried they will not be able to start harvesting operations.

HURFOM: On September 7, 2023, the military junta arrested a married couple living in Thane Gone Ward, Thaton Town, Mon State after accusing them of sharing information with the People’s Defense Forces.
The junta used excessive force when they raided their home and arrested 34-year-old Ko Min Zayar and his 34-year-old wife Ma Honey Kyaw.

HURFOM: On September 7, 2023, the military junta launched an air assault on Htee Wall Hta village, Dwel Low Township, Mu Taw District, Karen State that killed a teacher and three students.
The deceased included 56-year-old teacher Saw Hpar Dar, two male students Saw Al Mu and Saw Bo Gyi, and one girl, Naw Htee Ku Phaw. The three children ranged in ages 13 to 16.

A weekly update by the Human Rights Foundation of Monland (HURFOM) on the situation on the ground. Summary data includes Mon State, Karen State, and Tanintharyi region.
As another ASEAN summit came and passed, little progress was made on the human rights situation in Burma. While the regional bloc condemns the junta’s behavior, they also enable it by permitting the murderous regime to attend meetings and training, including on anti-terrorism and security – of which the Burma Army has no place. The lives of innocent people are at risk, yet regional and global entities, including the UN, make conscious choices to stand with dictators rather than those of the pro-democracy movement.

HURFOM: The military junta has issued a curfew in Tenasserim Town, Tenasserim Division banning people from going outside between 8 pm and 5 am. But there were no special restrictions issued for ambulances.
However, effective August 25, junta’s check-points in Tenasserim Division have started to ban ambulances traveling at night.

HURFOM: For more than 2 and half years, the junta has had check-points in the Kan Bauk Area, Yebyu Township, in Tenasserim Division and they have tightened their security.
Since the attempted coup took place, the junta has put in place more and more restrictions on the movement of people creating problems and inconveniences to local villagers.
