HURFOM: On September 7, 2023, the military junta arrested a married couple living in Thane Gone Ward, Thaton Town, Mon State after accusing them of sharing information with the People’s Defense Forces.
The junta used excessive force when they raided their home and arrested 34-year-old Ko Min Zayar and his 34-year-old wife Ma Honey Kyaw.
“Ma Honey wrote a comment under a social media post by Pan Sello (a supporter of the National Unity Government – NUG). Military supporters found that and informed the junta, who then arrested her. The junta alleges they’re NLD supporters so they arrested her in a spiteful manner,” said a Thaton resident.
The couple run a toy and stationery shop in Thaton Central Market. The junta detained and interrogated them at the Thaton Police Station.
According to the Association for the Assistance of Political Prisoners (AAPP) as of September 7, at least 808 people have been arrested in Mon State since the attempted coup.
