Soldiers take up stations in Yebyu village forcing villagers to flee

HURFOM: On October 9, 2023, a military unit entered and established a station in Kyauk Ka Nyar village, Yebyu Township, Tenasserim Division causing villagers to run away for their safety.

About 20 soldiers of the 406th and 407th Light Infantry Battalion from Taline Yar entered Kyauk Ka Nyar via jungle route and took up station in an abandoned house in the village.

Owners fear traveling to and staying overnight at plantations due to junta’s artillery attack

HURFOM: The junta’s artillery battalions in Thanbyuzayat and Ye Townships, Mon State have frequently launched artillery attacks at the check-point of the People’s Defense Forces in Wel Kha Mi and Out Hngat Pyaw Taw villages, Thanbyuzayat Township.

The frequent artillery attacks are making owners of the nearby plantations afraid to stay and work at their plantation.

Residents from five villages flee as military launches operation in Yebyu Township

October 11, 2023

HURFOM: On October 9, 2023, the military junta launched an operation in Yebyu Township, Tenasserim Division and forcefully evacuated residents from five villages.

The military junta has been launching operations in villages along the western coast of Ye Township for 13 days, — from September 22 to October 4.  As of October 9, another 50 troops have come to reinforce the regiment.

Junta’s limitation on motorcycle movement in Thaton creates problem for drivers

HURFOM: On October 3, 2023, a retired captain from Kyar Pan village, Durian Sake village track, Thaton Township, Mon State was shot and killed.

On October 6, the junta’s Thaton Township Administration Council issued a local order banning two men from riding the same motorcycle.

HURFOM: On October 8th, 2023, a 55-year-old man from Ward #3, Pa La Town, Pu Law Township, Myike District, Tenasserim Division was arrested by the military junta.

While driving his motorcycle taxi, U Thein Tan encountered the military patrol and was arrested.

Two civilians injured by artillery attack in Kaw Ka Rate

HURFOM: On the evening of October 6th, 2023, two artillery shells were dropped and exploded in Kaw Ka Rate Town, Karen State and the explosion injured a 10-year-old child and 46-year-old man, according to a local rescue team.

Thousands of residents flee homes following large influx of military in Long Lone

HURFOM: On October 4, 2023, the military base in Kyauk Ni Maw village, Long Lone Township, Dawei District, Tenasserim Division was attacked. In response, the military junta deployed around 100 troops via a sea route to reinforce their base.

The arrival of the military led to more than 1,000 villagers from three surrounding villages having to flee their homes.

Two residents arrested for defaming junta’s leader on social media

October 9, 2023

HURFOM: In the first week of October, 2023, the military junta arrested two local residents from Bilin and Paung Township, Mon State, after accusing them of defaming the junta’s leader on social media.

On October 2, the military junta raided the house of Ko Min Myat Tun Aung in Ah Lu village, Bilin Township and arrested him. The junta accused him of using the “Min Tun Myat Aung” Facebook account to defame the junta’s leader on social media.

Junta conducts census in Mawlamyine and Kyikemayaw Townships

HURFOM: On October 1, 2023, the military junta started conducting a census in Mawlamyine and Kyikemayaw Townships, Mon State, according to local sources.

The junta informed us to stay at home when they came to conduct the census. If not, we must go to the ward administration office and explain why,” said a local villager from Kyikemayaw Township.
