Approximately 400 Thaton residents flee junta’s artillery attacks

HURFOM: Since January 10th, 2024, the military junta has targeted villages under the control of the 1st Brigade of the Karen National Liberation Army, Karen National Union in Thaton Township, Mon State.
Constant artillery attacks have forced nearly 400 villagers to flee their homes, according to a statement by the Thaton District Karen National Union.
The 402nd Thaton-based Artillery Regiment launched at least ten artillery attacks on Su Inn and Kaw Hline Yaw Lay Gone villages from 6 am to 9 pm. Due to artillery explosions, 382 people from 82 households from Su Inn, Kaw Hline Yaw Lay Gone and Kyone Main villages fled their homes.
“Now, no one is left in the village. It looks abandoned. The entire village is running away. The artillery attack is getting worse and worse every day,” said a Kyone Main villager.
Two houses from Su Inn villages and other houses from Kaw Hline Yaw Lay Gone village were destroyed by artillery explosions.
The military junta has intentionally been targeting villages under control of Thaton District Karen National Union with artillery attacks and 1,300 Kyone Main residents have fled since December 2023. They have been unable to return to their homes.
