HURFOM: More than 300 troops with the military junta have advanced into the “Gyaing River” area, Kyikemayaw Township which is located on the border of Mon and Karen States.  The military presence has created fear in communities and has forced some villagers to flee their homes.

150 soldiers from the Southeast Command based in Mawlamyine have stationed themselves at the Kha Yone Gu (Kha Yone Cave) nearby Dhammasa village and other troops have advanced into the Kaw Bane, Karn Nee and Kyone Doe areas.

The increased military presence has forced villagers from Dhammasa, Kaw Bane, Kaw Pauk and Kyone Doe areas to flee their homes and find temporary shelters, or with relatives’ houses in nearby villages.

The military presence has frightened our villagers. We’re afraid that they will establish their base here and kill villagers. As of today, they haven’t established a base within the village yet, but they’re active in the village. The military movement has frightened our villagers and forced them to flee. Most women and children have already fled,” said a resident.

On March 27th, 2023, the military junta and the joint resistance forces battled with each other for more than a month along the “Gyaing River” area and junta soldiers stationed themselves in houses abandoned by displaced villagers.
