Junta increases arrests in Dawei City

HURFOM: Since the second week of December, 2023, the military junta has been conducting more arrests in Dawei City, Tenasserim Division, according to the local sources.
Ko Soe Lwin Tun from Bone Maw Ward, was arrested at night on December 16. An adult woman from Kyout Maw Ward was arrested on December 20. On the night of December 23, two women from Bone Maw Ward, and a woman from Owl Loke Ah Shae Ward were arrested by the junta.
The junta arrested 53 residents from Kyet Sar Pyin Ward in the evening of December 27 and released only six of them.
“We’ve heard that Ko Soe Lwin Tun was arrested because he opened a bank account with a fake ID card. Ma Cherry Wine was arrested because she opened a Kpay account with an unregistered SIM card. But we don’t know why the other three were arrested,” said a Dawei resident.
No one knows the whereabouts of those arrested and the junta has not permitted family members with any contact.
“Arrests have been conducted every night. We’ve heard five men and women were arrested but we don’t know the exact list,” said a local source.
According to a local source who prefer to stay anonymous, the military junta accuses arrested victims of providing financial support to revolutionary forces via Kpay account in 2021.
