Woman shot and killed in Lamine

HURFOM: At approximately 10 am on June 22, 2023, a 50-year-old woman from Lamine Town, Ye Township, Mon State was shot and killed by two unknown men, according to a local report.
She was a government staff member from the Lamine Immigration Department. Her job involved helping people to apply for a national recolonization card (NRC). She also worked as an agent for legal cases.
“Ma Kywe was a NRC agent so two men pretended they applied for NRC and contacted her by phone to meet at the clock tower in downtown. Soon after, a gunshot rang in the air and the two men fled by motorbike. Ma Kywe died at the scene,” said a Lamine resident.
The gun shot triggered the local military artillery battalion to launch three artillery attacks which added more fear amongst the community.
Ye Balue Group, an armed group active in Ye Township, claim the woman was killed because she allegedly worked closely with the military junta. At the time of publication this speculation has not been corroborated.
