HURFOM: Artillery shells exploded at a brick factory near the exit of Kaw Ka Rate town, in Karen State, at around 6:00 am, on May 6, 2023. According to local network reporters, one civilian was killed and 6 other workers were injured.
According to the 35-year-old Saw T__ N___, the Junta’s military troops based in the hills on the eastern side of Kaw Ka Rate town were firing artillery indiscriminately at local Karen villages.
“Many of the artillery shells fell near residential areas. Some houses were destroyed and burnt by the shells. Villagers fled from their homes when they heard the first explosion. Some who couldn’t run sheltered in trenches. A 35-year-old, named Ko Zeya, who came to work at the brick kiln, from Zatha Phyin village in Hpa-an township, was killed. Six other workers were injured. A woman was among those who suffered injuries,” said a local network reporter.
None of the injured are from the area, they came to work at the factory.
“Almost all the houses and neighborhoods in this area can be said to be battlefields. The Junta military troops are stationed in at least 3 places around this area and launch frequent artillery attacks. Nowhere can be said to be safe anymore. It is no longer easy to travel from one place to another, be it for work or other matters. It becomes really difficult to work for a living. We also need humanitarian support. There are many people fleeing and staying near this city. I would like to request the donors and social groups to support us,” 50-year-old U ___ _____ said yesterday.
