Two killed, 6 injured in vehicle attack

HURFOM: A passenger car carrying 8 individuals was traveling near Hnan Jell village, Yebyu Township, Tenasserim Division, when at about 3 pm on February 6, 2023 the vehicle was shot at by unknown assailants.
A monk and a woman in the car were killed during the attack. Four passengers sustained severe injuries and two children suffered minor injuries. All of the victims were sent to the Dawei General Hospital.
The two fatalities were a 60-year-old Abbot from Yar Phu new village and 65-year-old Daw Ohm Myint.
The passengers were enroute to Yar Phu village, Yebyu Township, having been in Dawei City.
“I heard about 30 gunshots at 3 pm. I went outside and saw the monk’s car had been shot at. The monk was in the front seat, and was dead, the woman was in the back seat,” said a Hnan Jell villager.
No further information has emerged to explain who is responsible for the attack or their motives.
