HURFOM: The military junta has tightened its security in Ye Township, Mon State since June, 2022.  They have installed many check-points and the security forces at these check-points have been extorting money from passengers.

The soldiers at the Ye Bridge Check-point have threatened the passengers riding in all vehicles and trucks with unjust reasons.  According to HURFOM sources, individuals are only allowed to pass through a check-point after handing over their money.

They’ve been extorting money. Those who don’t have ID cards and recommendation letters from the Village Administrator are subjected to extortion. The passengers have to pay from 5,000 to 10,000 Kyat. Now, the laws have come from their mouths and they extort money as they like, said a Ye resident.

The Ye Bridge Check-point has been notorious for extorting money from passengers for a long time ago but after the coup, the security forces have been committing extortion.

“The truck drivers have to suffer even more extortion. If a truck carries wood or bamboo, the soldiers threaten the driver and extort money from them. A single truck has to pay up to 30,000 Kyat. Family cars and express buses also have to pay money, said the HURFOM source.
