Police conduct an investigation into drugs, sex and firearms trade

During August 2016, the local army, local police, special police, border guard forces and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Yangon have launched a cooperative mission to eliminate drugs, sex and firearms trade in the town of Three Pagodas Pass (TPP) located by the Thai-Burma Border.
On August 13, 2016, Inspector Soe Kyaw Than of TPP Police Station and his group, cooperated with the local military, led by Lieutenant Colonel Min Hein, the Commander of TPP-based Light Infantry Battalion No. 24 formed a group of 20 members for the investigation to lead the search into Nai Mon Hong aka Nai Win Aung’s house. The investigative group seized 47kg of the drug ICE (methamphetamine), 3 M-16 rifles, 2 pistols, 9,000 different varieties of bullets, a hand grenade and five hundred thousand Kyat in the basement of his house.
Similarly, on August 17, local authorities searched a house in Ka Yin Suu New Ward of No.4 Ward in TPP and seized drugs and weapons. The authorities arrested the couple who lives in the house. Equally, the local army and local police cooperatively searched the house and arrested Pyar Laung, a member of KNU-KNCA (Karen National Union) and seized drugs, a hand grenade and a pistol.
In addition, on August 18, the local police, local army, special police, border guard forces and local militia, together entered the house of Aung Khine Oo aka Ka Done, the owner of Tha Zin Oo Guesthouse near TPP’s Myo Ma Market and searched for drugs. They found no drugs but seized 2 high-quality rifles, 3 pistols, 2,700 variety of bullets, an M-67 hand grenade, 12.28 million Thai Baht (122,840,000.00 THB), 5.7 million Burmese Kyat, 113 different pieces of gold bars, 4,534g of different gold jewelry, 15.366 Peittha (25.09 kg) of 23-carat gold bars. The estimated total value of all seized materials is more than 1,578 million Kyat.
On August 24, four officials from Insein CID – Yangon reportedly came to TPP in order to investigate those who are notorious for illegal business.
On August 27, Maung Lay Gyi, 30, who owns a brothel and lives in U Daung Lake Ward in TPP was arrested for his illegal business. Maung Lay Gyi is also a broker who is known to have a history with human trafficking.
According to special police in TPP, 32 individuals who are notorious for conducting illegal and dirty businesses have been arrested.
