Mon State faces scarcity and high price of gasoline

November 11, 2025

HURFOM: Since late October, 2025, gasoline supplies have essentially run out in Mon State and the rising price creates livelihood problems for local people.

Due to the scarcity, small distributors in villages and gas stations in big cities have stopped their sales.  Distributors can no longer guarantee any availability.

A liter of gasoline was priced at 4,000 MMK in Ye Township; however, the price has risen up to 5,000 MMK per liter due to high demand.

In Lamine, most gas stations run out of gasoline. We have to pay a high price to get gasoline in some big shops. But we can’t buy what we want. One customer can get only one liter. But we can’t buy anymore now,” said a Lamine resident.

The customers have to queue to buy gasoline and it takes time and creates traffic congestion.

If the gasoline runs out, people in the cities will face more difficulty. We have to queue to buy gasoline and we have to spend a lot of time and energy,” said a driver.

Previously, Mon State directly imported gasoline from the Thi La War Seaport in Yangon. However, the junta has been planning to build an international seaport in Mudon Township, Mon State meaning they are distributing gasoline fromstorage tanks in Ka Tone Paw village. However, this new distribution system does not work well, leaving to the scarcity of gasoline in Mon State.
