HURFOM: The junta’s newly-installed security gate on Eye Poke village road, Ye Chaung Pyar region, Ye Township, Mon State has imposed a movement restriction from 5pm to 6am and the restriction has created problem for local rubber plantation workers.
“That gate is closed at 5pm. They allow no one to pass through. It isn’t okay for the rubber plantation workers. Even we go to our plantation at 4:30 am, they don’t allow us to pass the gate. They even yelled at us,” said a plantation worker.
There are approximately 30 rubber plantations alongside the Eye Poke village Road and ten plantations have to stop operation due to the movement restriction. Only 20 rubber plantations are in operation.

“There are about 30 plantations in Eye Poke Road and ten plantations have to stop operation. Those plantations are close to the military base so no one dare to go there,” said the worker.
Most of the residents in Ye Chaung Pyar reigon heavily rely on rubber plantation for their livelihood.
“It’s harvest season and this job is an only source of our income. If we can’t go to the plantation, we don’t have food. We have to go to our plantation in the evening (before the curfew) and sleep at the plantation. But the regiments have stationed in some plantations so the owners can’t do so. They have to work as hired laborers in other plantations,” said a rubber plantation worker.
In Mon State, depending on the type or quality of the rubber slices, one pound of rubber slices has priced from 1,700 to 2,700 MMK.
