Junta arrests tricycles in Paung and extorts money from owners

HURFOM: Since April 7th, 2025, the junta’s traffic police have been arresting tricycles in Paung Township, Mon State. The junta justified the tricycles created more and more traffic accidents, local villagers reported HURFOM.
“Now, there are many traffic accidents in Paung. Most of them are related to tricycles. That’s why the junta arrested the tricycles. But after being arrested, the owners have to pay a monthly fee to the police station to get driving licenses,” said a local villager.
Most villagers in Tha Pyay Gone, Ah Hlut, Nyaung Gone Lay, Htan Pin Chaung and nearby villages have been riding tricycles and all of them have to pay a monthly fee to the particular police stations.
Since April 7th, 2025, at least 20 tricycles were arrested in Paung Township and some owners had to pay a ransom to the junta to get back their tricycles.
