Junta targets downtown Kaw Ka Rate with artillery attack, killing one woman

HURFOM: On February 4th, 2025, the Kaw Ka Rate based 97th Light Infantry Battalion and an artillery regiment operating under the 19th military operation command launched an artillery attack on the downtown Kaw Ka Rate Town, Kaw Ka Rate Township, Karen State.  There were no armed clashes in the area.

The artillery shells exploded in Chaung Taung Ward near the Kaw Ka Rate Town Police Station and the explosion killed 50-year-old Ma Nwe Nwe.

Three artillery shells were dropped downtown – one nearby the “chewable betel nut” shop, another one near the “Daw Khway Ma” rice mill and the final one in Chaung Taung Ward. There was also an artillery explosion outside the town,” said a resident.

On February 1st, 2024, another junta artillery attack killed a resident and injured a child in Phar Kya village, Kaw Ka Rate Township.

According to the locals, there had been no active armed clash near Kaw Ka Rate Town.  However, now there are skirmishes between the military junta and armed resistance forces.

Since January, 2025, military tensions have been growing nearby Kaw Ka Rate Town and the military junta has been launching indiscriminate artillery nearly every day targeting nearby areas.
