Junta shoots and kills eight recaptured detainees in Ye

HURFOM: On February 1^st, 2025, detainees were being held in a cell in the Ye Town Police Station in Ye Township, Mon State. When police officials entered the cell to provide the detainees with a meal, they were overpowered by the detainees who grabbed the police firearms and shot the police officials. The detainees managed to escape.

Lieutenant Police Captain Nine Lwin Oo, Police Sergeant Myint Tun and Police Private Kyaw Swar Htet were killed on the spot, while Police Major Myint Oo was seriously injured. One of the detainees also died at the spot.

According to local sources, in the evening of February 2^nd, the junta recaptured eight of detainees and shot and killed them.

“All eight recaptured detainees were shot and killed by order of the district police chief. They all were cremated at the Ye cemetery on February 3^rd,” said the source.

The detainees were from Ye, Lamine and Yangon and they were charged with political or drug related crimes that carried a death sentence penalty.

Four detainees managed to escape and three of those have taken shelter with the Ye Balue Group – an armed revolutionary organization. One detainee remains missing.

After the shooting incidents, the junta shut down the Ye – Dawei Union Highway Road as of February 6^th, according to the Ye residents.

According to sources close to the police station, there are about 90 detainees at the Ye Town Police Station.
