Junta shoots at, then arrests three children playing with fireworks in Thaton

HURFOM: On October 22nd, 2024, the military junta shot at and arrested three children from Nan Khel Ward, Thaton Town, Mon State.
The children were playing with fireworks near the “Sithu Tun” Restaurant during the “Tha Din Kyut” Festival when junta’s troops came to arrest them. The children ran away, and the junta’s forces shot at them, and arrested 17-year-old Maung Min Chit Thu, Maung R Kar Phyo and another unknown child.
Maung Min Chit Thu and Maung R Kar Phyo sustained arm injuries.
“Three children were arrested while two others managed to escape. Family members have been negotiating with the junta for their releases,” said a resident from Nan Khel Ward.
The two injured children were admitted to the Thaton District General Hospital and as of October 21st, had not been discharged.
On September 2nd, junta’s troops also shot at and arrested four young men from Tha Byu Chaung village, Paung Township who were drinking at the village market. One individual sustained an injury.
