Junta raids Taung Yar Kan village in Pu Law Township and loots valuable things

HURFOM: On October 4th, 2024, a junta’s regiment consisted of about 70 troops launched military operation to Taung Yar Kan village, Pu Law Township, Tenasserim Division forcing local villagers to flee their home.
The troops destroyed and invaded empty houses of displaced villagers. Then, they looted valuable things and carried them with lorry trucks, according to Taung Yar Kan villagers.
“The valuable things and about ten motorbikes were looted and taken away by two lorry trucks. At the moment, they’ve stationed themselves in houses and village monastery,” said a local displaced villager.
Moreover, the regiment arrested a local young man and his grandmother had to pay the regiment 35 million MMK and her jewelry to release her grandson.
“The grandma was hiding in a nearby mangrove forest. She let her grandson to go back home to collect some “items” and he was arrested by the regiment. She had to give everything she had to make her grandson released,” said a witness.
The regiment has also threatened nearby monasteries not to accept displaced persons from Taung Yar Kan village.
In September 18th, a junta’s regiment also launched military operation to Shat Pone village, Pu Law Township where they burnt down more than 30 houses and burnt and killed three local villagers.
