HURFOM: On September 16th, 2024, a junta’s regiment consisting of about 150 troops had launched a military operation targeting Zar D village, Yebyu Township, Tenasserim Division.  The regiment stationed themselves outside the village, forcing the entire village to flee their homes.

Two days later, on September 18th, the regiment launched at least four artillery attacks on the village injuring a 40-year-old displaced man U Hla Tun who had returned to his home to get food.

The entire village fled when the regiment arrived. The artillery debris hit his leg and he has been sent to the Dawei General Hospital. I think they have to amputate his leg,” said a Zar D resident.

On September 17th, the regiment cut off the electricity and telecommunication network in the village.  More than 300 displaced persons took shelter in nearby monasteries, plantations and neighboring villages.

Both Telenor (Atom) and Myetel operators lost their signal soon after the artillery attack. Now, the telecommunication is cut off in Zar De and nearby five villages,” said a displaced villager.

In July, 2024, the troops from the Mawrawaddy Navy Command had stationed themselves in the village for ten days. The troops looted gold, cash, motorbike, furniture and other valuables from houses.

Also on May 15th, 2024, the Mawrawaddy Navy Command targeted Zar D village with an indiscriminate artillery attack that killed two teenagers. On July 1st, the regiment arrested eight villagers and killed four residents.

This year, the military junta had destroyed village roads in the Zar D village tract and restricted transportation of basic foods and medicine.
