Civilian stuck in armed clash, shot and killed in Ye

HURFOM: On July 8th, 2024, an armed clash took place between the military junta and the People’s Defense Forces between Yaw Thit village and R Yu Taung village, Ye Township, Mon State.
58-year-old R Yu Taung, a resident of Nai Win was carrying betel nuts from his plantation on his motorbike when he encountered the armed clash. He was shot and killed.
“It looks like he didn’t know there was an armed clash. He was in the middle of the road and the military and the PDF were firing from both sides. They didn’t stop the firing. His whole body was full of gunshot wounds and he died on the spot. We saw everything from our car. Everyone was frightened,” said a witness.
Local people carried the dead body of Nai Win to R Yu Taung village where his family member cremated his remains in the evening of July 8th.
