HURFOM: On July 7th, 2024, the 208th Light Infantry Battalion targeted villages in the “Pyar Taung” area, Kyikemayaw Township, Mon State with an indiscriminate artillery attack that destroyed four houses in Kaw Don village.
“No one is in the villages. The military junta has reinforced their troops and the resistance forces are active in and around the villages so the residents have already fled to Mawlamyine and Kyikemayaw cities since June,” said a resident.
The junta has assumed the resistance forces are active in the “Pyar Taung” area and launched indiscriminate artillery attacks on Kaw Don, Kaw Pa Naw, Kaw One, Well Ngae, Kwan Ngan, Mell Garow and Ka Don Si villages.
“Military tension still persists. Their base was attacked by a drone on June 28th. Since that day, they’ve responded with constant artillery attacks,” said a “Pyar Taung” resident.
More than 1,000 residents from seven villages of “Pyar Taung” area have had to flee their homes.
