Three young females injured by landmine in Kaw Ka Rate

HURFOM: On July 29, 2023, three young females from Aung Mingalar village, Kaw Ka Rate Township, Karen State stepped on a landmine and all suffered injuries.
The victims included a 12 year old Ma Khin Mar Aye, 19 year-old Ma Htay Moe and 22 year-old Ma Count Chan.
The three were searching for bamboo shoots and mushrooms near their village when one stepped on a landmine. The incident occurred near Wall Lay Strategic Hill, which is controlled by the 13th Military Operation Command.
“A landmine was planted nearby the village. In this area, we fear going to the plantation,” said an owner.
All the victims were sent to Kaw Ka Rate General Hospital and 12 year old Ma Khin Mar Aye was deemed to be in critical condition.
For over two years the military junta has frequently launched artillery attacks targeting villages in Kaw Ka Rate Township. Landmines have been found near the villages.The area is controlled by the KNLA 6th Brigade of the Karen National Union.
