HURFOM: The junta’s troops have been launching indiscriminate attacks in Kaw Hlar, Mi Galon and surrounding villages in Kaw Ka Rate Township, Karen State.
The battle between the Burmese military and the joint forces of the Karen National Liberation Army and the People Defense Forces has been intensifying in Kaw Ka Rate Township. The military has responded with indiscriminate artillery attacks and air assaults.
These attacks have damaged villagers’ homes and livestock buildings. Feeling insecure, villagers have fled from their communities.
To date, about a hundred villagers have fled.
“There is no day without gunfire. A (PDF) group launched an attack with drones. Another group (the Burmese military) responded with artillery attacks. We, the villagers, are the ones to suffer between them. Our houses were destroyed. Our livestock are dead. We have to run away from our villages. Some villagers died during the artillery attack while others were injured,” said a local villager.
During the first week of May, 2023, nine villagers were injured by the artillery attacks and one man was killed.
