HURFOM: FE5 Tanintharyi said in a press conference on April 25th, 2025, that in March, the number of newly displaced persons in Dawei and Myeik Districts, Tenasserim Division has increased to 66,000 in one month, and they are urgently in need of medicine.

The junta has been launching military operations to regain control of the border trade route and the Dawei Special Economic Zone, which has led to intense battles with local resistance armed groups.

Thousands of residents have had to flee their homes, and the displaced villagers are now suffering from malaria, diarrhea, skin diseases and respiratory diseases. They are also experiencing a shortage of medicine.

We’ve already experienced armed conflict but we could eventually go back to the village and run for cover. Now, there have been constant battles and no one can go home. Everyone has to hide in the forests and mountains. That’s why some displaced villagers are suffering from malaria. But they have no medicine. We urgently need medicine,” said one social worker helping the displaced community.

Constant battles and bad transportation are preventing aid organizations from reaching the affected areas and the displaced villagers are also in urgent need of food.

The junta has imposed a ban on transportation of rice, food and medicine in Tha Yet Chaung, Taung Pyauk, Tenasserim and Pu Law Townships in Dawei East Forest area.

There are 27,300 displaced villagers in Dawei District and the Myeik District has 29,500 displaced villagers. The Pu Law displaced camp has accommodated about 3,000 displaced villagers and the remaining displaced villagers are taking shelter in nearby forests and mountains, plantations or with relatives living in unaffected urban areas.
