Displaced students decide not to take final exam

February 11, 2025

HURFOM: More than 300 students and their parents from Kyone Long (old) village and Kyauk Mee Chaung village, Ye Chaung Pyar region, Ye Township, Mon State have been displaced by heavy armed clashes and military tensions in the area.

The students were scheduled to take their final exam on February 17th, 2025 but most decided not to take the exam due to the armed conflict, according to a social worker who helps displaced villagers.

197 middle-school students from Kyone Long (old) village and 109 primary-school students from Kyauk Mee Chaung village recently took shelter in Ah Paw Yit Chaung village which is under the control of the New Mon State Party.

There are too many challenges right now, so parents decided not to let their children take the exam,” continued the social worker.

Schoolteachers have visited the temporary camps and encouraged students to take their exam but there was no response from them.

A few days ago, I visited the temporary displaced persons camp in Ah Paw Yit Chaung and urged the students to take the exam. But no one came back (to take the exam). If some students want to take the exam, it’ll be a very small number,” said a schoolteacher.

Thousands of students and parents from Kyone Long, Kyauk Mee Chaung, Well Baung and Well Zin villages also fled their homes.
