Junta’s indiscriminate artillery attacks create hardships for plantation workers

HURFOM: Since January 15th, 2025, the military junta has been launching indiscriminate artillery attacks in Kaw Zar Town, Ye Township, Mon State leaving local plantation workers fearful of traveling to their workplaces.

The artillery attacks launched by the Kaw Zar based 31st Light Infantry Battalion have prevented workers from going to the plantations.

The artillery attacks began five days ago. Yesterday, they launched an artillery attack that continued until 8 pm. We don’t know why they are launching such artillery attacks. The villagers are too frightened to go to their plantation,” said a Kaw Zar resident.

The artillery explosions have destroyed rubber and fruit plants and local plantation workers have lost their daily income as they cannot go to their workplace.

During these days, the villagers don’t go outside and parents do not send their children to school. The school isn’t closed but parents are worried about the security of their children and have decided not to send them to school,” said a local resident.

The military junta also tightened security at the entrance and exit of Kaw Zar Town and are conducting rigorous checks on pedestrians, especially on young men.
