Five residents arrested while junta conducts check on visitors at night

HURFOM: At about 9 pm on January 6th, 2025, junta’s troops reached Aung Mingalar, Aung Mitta, Yan Gyi Aung and Yan Myo Aung Ward, Ye Town, Ye Township, Mon State with five military trucks.  The troops conducted a “check on visitors” at residential houses. Then, they arrested five local residents.

40-year-old U Zaw Min Oo and his wife Ma Thidar from Aung Mingalar Ward were arrested during the check.

The soldiers arrived in five trucks at 9 pm and conducted checks for visitors. They arrested a couple. We do not know the reason for the arrest,” said a local source who prefers to remain anonymous.

The wife was released on January 7th but the husband remains in detention.

I saw the wife was released in the morning but her husband is still under arrest. We dare not ask about that and nobody dare not speak about this incident,” said a resident.

The junta has also arrested three local men from Aung Mitta Ward and they have been detained at the Ye Town Police Station.

Locals reported to HURFOM that previously, conducting checks on visitors was led by the official from the village or ward general administration department but now, the soldiers lead these checks.
