Villager injured and three houses destroyed by artillery explosion in Kyike Hto

HURFOM: On September 30th, 2024, the 207th Light Infantry Battalion and the 310th artillery regiment both based in Thane Za Yet, Kyike Hto Township, Mon State were attacked by joint resistance forces.

In response, the junta launched at least 35 indiscriminate artillery attacks on Thone Kwa and Ye Kyaw villages which injured a villager and destroyed three houses, according to the Thaton District Karen National Union.

After their battalions were attacked, they launched about 35 artillery attacks. Some of the bombs exploded in Thone Kwa village and at least one villager got injured. But their injuries aren’t life-threatening,” said Ba Dho Saw Aye Nine, the secretary of the Thaton District Karen National Union.

The artillery explosion also destroyed two houses from Thone Kwa village and a house from Ye Kyaw village.

Both Thone Kwa and Ye Kyaw villages are under the control of the Thaton District Karen National Union.  Villagers have had to flee their homes frequently due to armed conflict incidents since the military coup began in 2021.

According to data collected by HURFOM, the junta’s artillery explosions have killed 53 villagers and injured 125 other residents in Mon, Karen and Tenasserim areas.
