Explosion in a primary school killed a school boy and injures other 26 students

HURFOM: On June 4rth, 2024, an artillery shell exploded at a primary school in Eain Shay Pyin Ward, Dawei City, Tenasserim Division that killed a school boy and injured 26 other students.
A 9-year-old grade-3 school boy, Maung Htet Myat Aung, found an unexploded artillery shell during the lunch break. He played with the shell, which caused it to explode. The explosion killed him on the spot and injured 11 school boys and 15 school girls.
“He found and picked up the artillery shell in the corridor of the school. Another school girl is in critical condition,” said a resident from Eain Shay Pyin Ward.
The injured students were sent to the Dawei General Hospital and the Military Hospital for treatment.
On May 13th, 2024, an armed clash took place at the junta’s check-point in Eain Shay Pyin Ward and unexploded ammunition was scattered in a nearby area. No armed group has come forward to claim the ammunition.
According to a report by UNICEF in April, 2024, there were 1,052 casualties caused by landmines and explosive ammunition across Burma.
