18-year-old girl raped by neighbor in Chaung Zone

HURFOM: An 18-year-old girl from Hin Thar Kyune village, Chaung Zone Township, Mon State was raped by her neighbor two months ago.
The 50-year-old man raped the girl more than one time at a barn near her house while her parents were away.
“The girl has lost her appetite and suffers from nausea and vomiting so her mother was worried and tried a urine test. Then, the girl is pregnant,” said a local villager.
A local source reported that the man threatened he would kill her, if she told her parents about the rape.
“Facing this threat the girl feared for her life and dared not tell anyone what happened to her,” said another villager.
The rapist has been charged and arrested under the Burmese Criminal Act Section 376, and is being detained at the Chaung Zone City Police Station.
