Social workers and residents arrested after being accused of supporting PDF

HURFOM: On June 13th and 14th, 2024, four social workers who are members of “Kaw Sa Nine” Social and Charity Association in Kaw Sa Nine Ward, Kyike Hto Town, Mon State and other four young residents from the same town were arrested by the junta after being accused of supporting the People’s Defense Forces.

At about 7 pm on June 13th, U Mya Aung was arrested in Kaw Sa Nine Ward. Then, his daughter Ma Chit Su Yadanar and co-workers U Soe Hline and Ko Chan Thar Aung were arrested at their houses.

Junta extorts individuals using VPN applications on their mobile phones

HURFOM: At the moment, the security forces of the military junta are checking the mobile phones of the pedestrians in Mon State, and if they find VPN applications, security forces have extorted as much as 100,000 MMK.

Since early June, 2024, junta’s security forces from various departments who have stationed themselves at exit or entrances of towns and road junctions have been checking mobile phones of pedestrians. The forces are targeting VPN applications to extort money from the users.

Displaced villagers from airport project face accommodation hardships

HURFOM: The military junta informed villagers who were in the project area of the new airport near Kaw Pa Ran village, Mudon Township, Mon State to move out by May 2, 2024 at the latest or they would be removed forcefully. Villagers have demolished their houses and transferred their belongings even in the rainy season.

Dawei youth go abroad to avoid conscription

HURFOM: On May 24th, 2024, junta-appointed Administrators met at the hall of the compound office in Dawei City, Tenasserim Division to discuss details regarding the third batch of compulsory military service. Soon after the meeting, summons letters with exact names and ID numbers were issued.

The letters have been delivered in every ward. After accepting the letters, parents have to go to the ward administration office and fill out the conscription form. The junta hasn’t collected candidates door-to-door but they have sent summons letters regularly,” said a local source.

Substitutes for compulsory military service cost as much as 6 million MMK

HURFOM: The military junta has instructed all village/ward Administrators that each village In Mon State, must send at least one candidate to compulsory military service.  Mon State has more than 1,100 villages or wards.

We were instructed to send one candidate for each village. But many villages have failed to do so. The junta is applying pressure on those villages. They said we must send a candidate at any cost,” said a village Administrator from Paung Township.

One man killed and ten men arrested in Maung Mell Shaung

HURFOM: On June 14th, 2024, the military junta battled with the local resistant forces near Maung Mell Shaung village, Dawei Township, Tenasserim Division. 

According to local sources, more than 100 troops were involved in a battle with the People’s Defense Force. After the fighting ceased, the local villagers found a 73-year-old man was killed in his house and ten other men were arrested by the junta’s troops.

Junta’s artillery attack injures father and daughter in Kyike Hto

June 18, 2024

HURFOM: On June 12th, 2024, the junta’s targeted Pane Nell Gone village, Kyike Hto Township, Mon State with artillery attacks that injured a father and daughter, according to the Thaton District Karen National Union.

The 310thn artillery regiment based in Thane Za Yat Town, Kyike Hto Township launched four artillery attacks on the village even though there was no active armed clash. The artillery shells exploded near residents’ houses, injuring 64-year-old U Than Oo and his 31-year-old daughter Ma Ye Ye Win.

More than 50,000 residents forced to flee homes in Tenasserim Division

HURFOM: In May, 2024, more than 50,000 residents of Dawei and Myeik Districts, Tenasserim Division had to flee their homes due to armed conflicts, artillery attacks and air assaults.

31,800 residents from Dawei, Long Lone, Yebyu and Tha Yet Chaung Townships of Dawei District and 24,500 residents from Pu Law, Myeik, Kyune Su and Tenasserim Townships of Myeik District have been forcefully displaced.
