Junta’s limitation on cash withdrawal disturbs business operations

HURFOM: On July 2nd 2024, the military junta announced they would penalize high-ranking officials from seven popular private banks. Following this announcement, trust in banks has dropped significantly, and clients began to withdraw their cash from their bank accounts.
In response, the junta limited cash withdrawal from banks, ATM machines and Mobile Pay apps on July 9th.

HURFOM: Since June, 2024, the number of cases of theft by a gang of thieves has been on the rise in Ah Nin village, Thanbyuzayat Township, Mon State, local people reported HURFOM.
Local people reported to HURFOM that gangs of thieves holding knives have been entering homes to steal lawnmowers, televisions, batteries, bicycles, clothes and other valuables. Villagers have experienced cases of theft every night.

HURFOM: On July 15th, 2024, the military junta targeted villages in Long Lone Township, Dawei District, Tenasserim Division with indiscriminate artillery attacks injuring a local man.
According to local sources, a regiment consisting of 100 troops entered Pan Da Lell and Inn Sought villages on the evening of July 14th and stationed themselves within the villages.

HURFOM: According to data collected by HURFOM, from the start of June to the first week of July, 2024, three civilians were killed while another fifteen, including children, were injured by the junta’s reckless and constant artillery attacks.
In June, a 10-year-old novice, a 14-year-old girl and 20-year-old lady were killed by junta’s reckless artillery attacks while two monks and other four civilians were injured by the attacks.

HURFOM: On July 13th, 2024, the military junta targeted Thar Ra Phone and Pa Wa villages, Tenasserim Township, Tenasserim Division with reckless and multiple air assaults that injured two innocent civilians.
The military junta dropped at least 18 bombs using jet fighters, the local villagers reported HURFOM.

HURFOM: On July 13th, 2024, the military junta launched a military operation targeting villages in Tha Yet Chaung Township, Tenasserim Division. Four villagers including a 16-year-old child were arrested and used as a human shield.
Beginning July 11th, the regiment consisting of about 200 troops moved through Sin Ku, Sin Kyan and Chauk Chaung villages, which are beside the Dawei-Myeik Highway Road.

As the military junta in Burma continues to commit widespread human rights violations, civilians are constantly fleeing to seek shelter and protection. Worryingly, the Burma Army has also intensified its surveillance tactics and is adding checkpoints to critical routes and then extorting those trying to pass. This comes amid rising inflation, including rice prices, which have left families struggling to survive.
At least thirteen villagers have been arrested, with some killed and others missing. Over the past week, junta troops entered Yebyu Township, capturing and killing several villagers while leaving others unaccounted for. Residents from the Zar Dee village tract, located in the Kan Bauk area and Dawei Special Economic Zone, reported the abductions and subsequent killings. Locals discovered the bodies of the captured and killed villagers.

HURFOM: On June 28th, 2024, the Mawrawaddy Navy Command arrested 29-year-old Ko Soe Pine, from Mi Kyaung Hlaung village, Yebyu Township, Tenasserim Division at his home.
Ko Soe Pine has not been released despite it being 15 days since his arrest. Family members have not been able to contact him.
