Displaced children unable to sit for grade promotion exams

January 17, 2024

HRUFOM: The grade promotion exams within government schools will start in the second week of February, 2024, but displaced children from 20 villages in the Chaung Hna Kwa area, Kyikemayaw Township, Mon State are facing difficulties to get official approval to take the exam.

There are approximately 40 displaced children in Kyune Yaw village and school teachers from government schools are teaching them at the moment.

Some displaced children have continued their studies in Mudon Town. But they need official approval to know where (in which school) they will be allowed to sit for the final grade promotion exam,” said a schoolteacher.

A list of displaced children has been provided to the authorities but there has been no reply.

A group of school teachers are teaching displaced children who are staying at the village monastery. We’ve filed the student list (with the authority) so that they can be allowed to sit for the exam. But we haven’t gotten any reply yet,” said a school teacher.

There is no active armed conflict in the Chaung Hna Kwa area but military tensions persist, and displaced villagers are unable to return to their homes.
