HURFOM: On December 13, 2023, the joint forces of the Karen National Defense Organization (KMDO) attacked Win Tar Ban Military Base nearby Win Tar Ban village, Bilin Township, Mon Sate.

The armed clash went on for two weeks up to December 25th, and the military junta targeted nearby villages with their artillery attacks. 1,468 villagers from 280 households residing in both Big Win Tar Ban and Upper Win Tar Ban villages had to flee for their safety.

The entire village has to run away. Since the armed clash began, the military targeted the village with artillery attacks nearly every day. No one dares to stay in the village. Houses have been burnt down. No one dares not return to the village so we don’t know the situation exactly,” said a Win Tar Ban villager.

According to the Thaton District Karen National Union, at least two houses were destroyed by the artillery explosion.

Residents have been homeless for two weeks, and are in urgent need of humanitarian support, including food, medicine, mattresses and mosquito nets.

Early last year, the military junta threatened village Administrators and community leaders that if the Karen National Liberation Army attacked their Win Tar Ban base, they would target the villages.
