Two More Bodies of Thin Kyun Villagers Found in Thar Yet Chaung, Killed and Discarded by Junta Troops

HURFOM: Two more villagers from Thin Kyun have been found dead, killed and disposed of by junta forces operating in Thar Yet Chaung Township, Dawei District, according to local sources.

The victims—two men, one in his 30s and the other in his 40s, were arrested by junta soldiers on July 26 after being stopped on the road. Witnesses said the troops tied their hands behind their backs and took them away.

Four days later, on July 29, their bodies were discovered by villagers near Kya-In Monastery, about six miles from Thin Kyun village.

“They were just going about their day when the troops encountered them. They tied them up and later killed them. We, the villagers, found the bodies. They had clear gunshot wounds,” said a local woman from the area.

She added that one of the bodies had severe head trauma, indicating a possible close-range injury.

This was not an isolated incident. On July 19, the same military unit shot and killed Ko Win Aye, a 40-year-old man from nearby Yan Taung village. His body was secretly buried near the fence of the village monastery.

In total, junta troops have killed at least three civilians from Yan Taung and Thin Kyun villages in recent weeks and attempted to cover up the crimes by burying the victims in remote areas.

Among the four civilians arrested during these operations, one man and one woman were reportedly beaten and interrogated, but later released.

Junta forces are currently active in at least two military columns moving through several villages in Thar Yet Chaung Township, including Thin Kyun, Yan Taung, Nyaung Zin, Kya-In, Kyet Sar Pyin, Hin Boat Chaung, Thu Yal Taung, and Pain Taw. Their presence has led to a wave of fear and displacement, as civilians are arbitrarily arrested, and many are forced to flee their homes.
