Junta’s constant artillery attacks force nearly all villagers in Thaton to flee

HURFOM: Constant artillery attacks by the military junta have forced nearly the whole population from Kyone Main village, Kaw Hline village track, Thaton Township, Mon State to flee their homes.

The village has a strong revolutionary force, but since December 19, Thaton base military regiments have launched artillery attacks both day and night.

Kyone Main village has approximately 200 houses and a population of 1,200,  and nearly all have fled due to the artillery attacks.

Now, on one dares to stay in the village. The artillery shells have been dropping nearly every day. The houses have been destroyed. The whole village has to run away. Only those who need to guard houses are left in the village,” said a resident.

According to Thaton District Karen National Union, Naw Faw Ta Mae, a 26-year-old pregnant woman, was killed by the junta’s artillery attack and a 2-year-old child sustained an injury. A monastery and two houses were also damaged by the attacks.

Villagers sought refuge in rock caves in the forest, and are in urgent need of food and health services.

The Thaton District Karen National Union accuses the 402nd and the 502nd  Thaton based Artillery regiments and the 206th Light Infantry Battalion as being responsible for the attacks.
