Arrested Pyin Gyi resident found dead from gunshot wounds

HURFOM: On November 30, 2023, a 60-year-old man U Myint Oo from Pyin Gi village, Long Lone Township, Tenasserim was arrested by an unknown armed group. On December 4, 2023, villagers found U Myint Oo’ near a cemetery in Kyauk Sin village. It appears he died from gunshot wounds.
“During his arrest, they said they would send back our father after two or three days so we’re hoping for the day of his return. But on December 4, we were informed that there was a dead body nearby Kyauk Sin village. We went there to inspect the body and realized it’s our father,” said his son.
Local sources report that U Myint Oo, was shot twice and it is believed he was killed about six days ago, as the body had begun to decay.
Family members do not know which armed group arrested U Myint Oo or why. They have gone into hiding as a result of the incident.
“We demand just one thing. The truth,” said a family member.
