More than 3,000 Kyike Hto residents flee home due to frequent artillery attack

HURFOM: Since the first of November, 2023, the military junta has launched frequent artillery attacks, day and night targeting villages in Kyike Hto Township, Mon State.  The Thaton District Karen National Union stated these attacks have forced more than 3,000 villagers to flee from their homes. In addition, the attacks on many villages in Thaton Township, pushes the internally displaced numbers to as many as 150,000 villagers.

Huge populations from Kyauk Phyar, Pyin Ka Doe Gone, Zee Pyaung, Win Kan, Win Kalaw, Ar Luu and Hngat Pyaw Taw village tracts are impacted by these artillery attacks.

We are being attacked with artillery weapons everyday, no one dares to stay in the village. My family has already moved to Kyike Hto Town.  They have been displaced for more than a week. We have problems with access to food and shelter,” said a resident from Hngat Pyaw Taw village.

Many villagers fled to Kyike Hto and Thein Za Yet Towns while some villagers took shelter in a place arranged by the Karen National Union.

On November 13, 2023, a 54-year-old man from Chaung Wa village, Kyike Hto Township was killed by the junta’s artillery attack.
